Abstract:During the interfacial photothermal water evaporation process of seawater, salt crystallzation significantly reduces the evaporation efficiencyoftheevaporator. To address this challenge,a series of zwiterionic copolymer cryogels weresynthesized through cryogenic copolymerizationof thezwiterionic monomer, sulfobetaine methacrylate,ad the hydrophilic monomer, acrylamide.Subsequently,a photothermal water evaporatorwas constructed byinsitu loading polypyrolevia oxidativecoupling polymerization.Thesaltresistanceof the evaporatorwasenhancedbythe antipolyelectrolyte effectof the zwiterionic side groups. To systematically elucidate how the equivalent evaporation enthalpy depends on copolymer composition and pore architecture, the cryogel composition was optimized. Scanning electron microscopywasusedtoobservethepore structuresofcryogels withdierentcompositions.Additionally, darkevaporation experiments were performed todetermine their equivalent evaporation enthalpies.Under simulated one-sun ilumination (incident intensity: 1kW/m2, ), the evaporator achieved a maximum evaporation rate of 2.39kg/(m2⋅h) for pure water. In an 8 h seawater evaporation test, no salt crystalization was observed while the evaporator achieved a peak evaporation rateof
2.41kg/(m2⋅h) with an average value of 2.23kg/(m2⋅h) .Notably, the quality of the collected water meets the drinkingwater standards.
