Recent Advances in Polymerization-Induced Self-Assembly of Liquid Crystalline Monomers

Abstract: Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA)represents a straightforward and eficient approach for preparing amphiphilic polymer asemblies,enabling simultaneous polymer synthesis and self-assemblyinaone-pot proces.Owing to theseadvantages,PIAhasaractedconsiderableinterestineentyars.Inthisrevie,wesystematicallummareeent advances inPAofconventional liquidcystalinemonomers (incudingazobenzene,perfluoroalkyl,stibene,andbipheyl derivatives)andchiralliquid-rystalinemonomers (suchasholesterol-based,chiralazobenzene,andchiralbipheylits). Special attention is given to the effectsofliquid crystalline monomers with various structures and functionalities on the morphology,liquid crystaline phasebehavior,and chiroptical propertiesoftheresulting polymerassemblies.Finalywe outlinethecritical challngescurrentlyfaced inthis fieldand highlight potential future directionsforthedevelopmentof liquid crystalline polymers via the PISA method.
