[Abstract] ObjectiveTo analyze serum folate, vitamin B12(VB12 )and 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels in patients with Alzheimer's disease(AD),and to evaluate the corelation these three indicators with patients’cognitive function and activities daily living, aswellastheir diagnostic eficiency for AD. MethodsSixty AD patients(AD group)and 48 elderly healthy individuals undergoing physical examination (control group) were selected. Serum levels folate, VB12 ,and 25(OH) D were measured in both groups. Cognitive function was asessed using the mini-mental state examination (MMSE),while activities daily living were evaluated using the activity daily living scale(ADL).ROC curves were ploted to analyze the diagnostic efficiency. ResultsSerum folate, VB12 ,and 25(OH) D levels,as well as MMSE and ADL scores, were all significantly lower in the AD group compared to the control group (all P<0.05 ). The three serum indicators were positively correlated with both MMSE and ADL scores (all P<0.05 ). ROC curve analysis revealed that the combined detection folate, VB12 ,and 25(OH) D achieved an AUC value O.798 for AD diagnosis, with a sensitivity 78.3% and a specificity 72.9% . These values were all significantly higher than those any single indicator used alone. ConclusionSerum folate, VB12 ,and 25(OH) D levels are significantly decreased in AD patients, which are positively corelated with the degree decline in patients’cognitive function and activities daily living. The combined detection these three markers could improve the diagnostic effciency for AD.
