Abstract：Atopic dermatitis isa common alergic skin disease.In Chinese medicine，itis believed that its pathogenesis is closelyrelated to the theory of "spleen governing defense qi".The spleen regulates the defense qi to protectthe body externallyand transforms nutrients internall to nourish the five viscera；the intestinalflora canserve as the modern medical basis for the "spleen governing defense qi" theory and is closely related to the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis.This relationship is mainlyreflected inaspects suchas immune response，intestinal barier，and intestineskinaxis."Spleengoverningdefenseqi"isarefinedand elevatedconceptofthespleen'sphysiologicalfunctionsandits role in defending against pathogens.Thefunctionsof intestinal flora have certain similarities with the "spleen governing defense qi".When spleen and stomach functionsare impaired，external pathogenscan easily cause alteration of intestinalflora，therebyaffecting theprognosisofatopic dermatitis patients.Thisarticleexplores theaction mechanism of intestinal flora in theoccurrence and development of atopic dermatitis based onthe"spleengoverningdefenseqi" theory，aiming to provide insights for acupuncture treating atopic dermatitis.
