Abstract To investigate the thermal response characteristics of postpartum women in air-conditioned rooms during summer and their relationship with postpartum symptoms,a community

hospital was selected for research and thermal environment parameters were tested. Subjective questionnaires were employed to survey postpartum women, female and male companions on their thermal comfort and clothing behavior, analyzing the differences among the three groups. Additionally, the relationship between various influencing factors and thermal preference among postpartum women was explored. Furthermore, postpartum symptoms among postpartum women were surveyed to examine the relationship between these influencing factors and postpartum symptoms. The results revealed that postpartum women prefer warmer environments with the thermal expectation temperature of 26∘C ,while the thermal expectation temperatures for female and male companions were 25.8°C and 25.3°C ,respectively. Women within 42 days postpartum prefer to stay warm, their average clothing insulation being O.12 to O.14 clo higher than at other stages. Women who are 1 to 2 years postpartum prefer cooler environments in summer, showing an opposite pattern compared to winter. They are more sensitive to temperature and have a narrower range of expected temperatures. Approximately 30% of postpartum women experience various symptoms, among which low back and knee pain accounts for 14.4% . These women mostly prefer cooler environments, most commonly seen in women more than 2 years postpartum.Joint pain accounts for 5% of cases, with no clear preference for warmer or cooler environments, and it is more common in the early postpartum period, with increased attention and prevention. Moderate exercise is beneficial for postpartum recovery, and it is recommended that postpartum women exercise3 to 4 times a week.
