Abstract： Lingyan Temple in Changqing District， Jinan， Province is located in Lingyan Valley Fangshan Mountain at the northwest foot Mount Taishan Mountain. It is an important part Mount Taishan World Cultural Heritage. There are numerous stone cultural relics such as steles preserved in the temple. This article mainly introduces the protection and restoration process the Tang Buddha Statue Pagoda in Lingyan

Temple. The Pagoda consists a base，a Buddhist niche，and five layers stone towers on top.Before restoration，classification and description the deterioration conditions according to the specifications for stone cultural relics were conducted， using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy（XRF）， X-ray diffraction spectroscopy（XRD）， scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive spectroscopy（SEM-EDS） and other technological methods to analyze the weathered areas and parts. Ion chromatography is used for salt detection，ultrasonic testing is usedto detect internal cracks，and three-dimensional laser scanning is used to extract information data. Based on the current condition and scientific testing results， the most appropriate conservation implementation plan was developed， including improvement the unstable state Tang Buddha Statue Pagoda ， treating surface conditions，and curbing the continued spread deterioration. The restoration effect will be displayed and preliminarily evaluated， including color differences，hardness， water absorption rate，ultrasonic testing data，etc.After scientific restoration， the goal treating the deterioration， safe protection and preventing future deterioration the cultural heritage can be achieved. The experience，methods，and technical means introduced inthis article aim to provide some reference for the scientific protection and restoration open-air stone cultural relics.
