Abstract:[Objective]Thisstudyaimedtoinvestigatetheeffectsofdiferentdefoliantsontheseedvigorandstoragesubstance contentofmachine-harvestedcotonseedswithdiferentmaturities,providingreferencesfortherationalselectionofdefoliants incotonproduction.[Methods]FieldexperimentswereconductedinSheziCity,Xinjiang,from020toO21.Themanplot involvedtheapplicationoftwodiferentdefoliants:RuituolongandYeluokong.Thesubplots included twocoton materials:an early-maturingvarietyidamian268(S68),andaate-maturingline,damian451(451).OnSeptember27,oobols thathaddevelopedfor30d,35d,40d,45d,and 50d onAugust 31 (the first application of defoliant)were harvested. Naturally-openedcottnbollsbeforedefoliantapplicationservedasthecontrol(CK).Seedcoatcolorwasobsered,andseed index,seedspecificightoiltentandproteinotentreeasred.Seedermiatioprcetage,nationotetial

germination index,and vigor index were determined at 18°C and 28°C .[Results] Compared with CK,the white seed rate (the proportionofimmatureseeds)of30-daybollsand35-daybolsofS268significantlyincreasedunderRuituolongandYeluokong treatments;whiletheblack-brownseedrate(theproportionofmatureseeds),sedindex,sedspecific weight,proteincontent, oilcontent,geminationpercentage,germinationindex,andigorindexofotonseedsallgnificantlyecreasedinand 2021.For S451,the white seed rate ofbollsat 30 d, 35d and 40d significantly increased;while the black-brownseed rate,seed index,seedspecificweight,proteincontent,oilcontent,germinationpercentage(exceptfore4-daybolls),gemination potential (except for the 40-day bolls at 28°C ),germination index,and vigor index of seedsall significantly decreased.After sprayingRuituolongandYeluokong,therewerenosignificantdiferencesintheblack-brownseedrate,germinationpercentage, andgerminationpotentialfor45-dayand50-daycotonbolsofS268andS451comparedwithCK;aswellastheseedil contentand proteincontentof50-daycottonbollscompared withCK.ForS268and S451,comparedwith Ruituolong,the black-brownseedrateof30-daybolls,seedindexof50-daybols,proteincontentof35-daybolls,seedgerminationindexof 35-day bollsat 28°C ,and vigor index of 40-daybolls at 18°C all significantly decreased.[Conclusion] Under the conditions of this experiment,thesuperiordefoliant was Ruituolong.SprayingRuituolong hadarelatively minorimpactonseed vigorand the content of storage substances of 45-50 days cotton bolls.
