Abstract:Flexible DC transmission system with overhead lines is prone to permanent faults. It is of practical significance to study high ⁃ precision fault location schemes to ensure the reliable operation of modular multilevel converter (MMC) type DC transmission systems. A method of flexible DC line fault localization based on active injection from DC circuit breaker is proposed. After the faulted line is isolated by means of DC circuit breaker, an LC injection branch is connected in series to the power loss system by means of DC circuit breaker, which relies on the injection branch to provide the faulted line with attenuated oscillatory disturbances. By measuring the line reactive power as well as the current at the circuit breaker exit, the stable relationship between resonant frequency, line reactive power and line current is used to calculate the total inductance values. The accurate total inductance size can be obtained by means of the averaging processing. The verification of the two ⁃ terminal MMC flexible DC transmission line simulation model constructed based on the PSCAD/EMTDC show that the proposed program has the ability to withstand a certain transition resistance and has good ranging accuracy.
