Effect of B on the toughness of all-position flux-cored wire of corrosion resistant steel for crude oil tanker

Abstract:Five types of C-Mn-Ni-Cu al-position flux-cored wires with varying B contents are designed and developed for corrosion-resistant steel in crude oil tanker.Deposited metals with B contents ranging from 0% to (2号 0.013% are prepared using 100% CO gas shielded welding. Optical microscopy(OM)and scanning electron 2 microscopy(SEM)are employed to study the effctof B content on the microstructure evolution ofthe deposited metal.Mechanical properties are evaluated through impact tests.The results indicate that as the B content increases from 0% to 0.001 3% ,the formation of Ferrite side plate (FSP)within the weld zone is suppressed, and the proportion of acicular ferite(AF) increases,exhibiting a refined microstructure with an interlocking distribution. Consequently,the low-temperature impact toughness value KV2(∇-40∇Φ) increases from 34 J to 102 J.As the B content further increases from 0.0060% to 0.013% ,both FSP and proeutectoid ferrite (PF) disappear within the weld zone,and the microstructure is AF.This leads toan increase in the low-temperature toughness from 101 Jto 118 J. The deposited metal of the C-Mn-Ni-Cu all-position flux-cored wire for corrosion-resistant steel in crude oil tanker reaches its highest low-temperature impact toughness value
