Abstract ∵ Load distribution during the meshing of rack railway gears and racks is crucial for calculating the contactstress between teeth and iscloselyrelated to gear service life.To understand the load distribution paterns between teeth during the meshing process of rack railway gears and racks,the load sharing ratio between teth was simulated by referencing calculation formulas for load distribution between teeth in involute gears. Combined with Hertzian contact theory,the contact characteristics between teeth of the gear-rack pair were analyzed under various gear design parameters,including the number of teth,modification coeficient,and mounting distance.The research results indicate that during gear-rack transmisson,the load borne by the gear when the preceding tooth pair is engaged is less than that borne when the subsequent tooth pair is engaged. Designparameters such asthe number of gear teeth,modification coeficient,and mounting distance significantly influence the load distribution between teth in the gear-rack pair.Asthe number of teeth, modification coeffcient,and mounting distance increase,the contact stress experienced by the gear over one meshingcycle generally shows a decreasing trend. Furthermore,the contact ratio of the gear-rack transmission increases with a greater number of teeth,but decreaseswith increases in the modification coeffcient and mounting distance.
