Study on the influence of bonding pressure on the performance of GFRP-Al single lap joints

Abstract:To investigate the influenceof diffrent bonding pressures on the bonding performance between GFRPand aluminum alloy,speciall designed fixtures were used toapply pressure and cure GFRP-Al single-lapjoints,resulting in the preparation of GFRP-Al single-lap joints under bonding pressres ranging from O.01 MPa to O.O5 MPa.The mechanical properties werestudiedthrough tensileshear tests,andtheresultsshowedthatthere were significantdiferences inthe shear strength ofGFRP-Alsingle-lapjointsunderdiffrentbonding pressures.Withthe increaseofbonding pressure,the shear strength ofGFRP-Alsingle-lapjoints showedadecreasing trend intherangeofO.O1MPa toO.O3 MPa,increased slightly at 0.04 MPa,but decreased sharplyat O.O5 MPa.Aditionaly,the failure modesof GFRP-Alsingle-lapjoints varied with diffrentbonding pressures: mixedfailure was more common underlowbonding pressures,while interface failure between theadhesivelayerandaluminum alloyoccurredunderhighbonding pressures.Tofurther investigatethefailurebehaviorof GFRP-Al single-lap jointsunderdiferent bonding pressures,a finiteelement simulation model of GFRP-Alsingle-lap jointswasestablished.Thefailurebehaviorof thejointswassimulatedbyaltering thebonding propertiesof theAl/adhesive interface under different bonding pressures.
