Research on the properties of epoxy resins for aerospace composite materials

Abstract:The relationship between mechanical and thermal properties of three high-temperature resistant epoxy resins (TDE-85,AG-8O,andAFG-90)was investigated.Thecuring behaviorand thermalstabilitywerecharacterizedbydifferentialscanning calorimetry (DSC),thermogravimetricanalysis (TGA),anddynamic mechanicalanalysis (DMA).Thecuring process was monitored using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),while mechanical properties were determined using auniversal testing machine.Fracture morphology was analyzed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Results showedthatallthreeresinsystems werefullycured.ThetensilestrengthsofTDE-85,AG-8O,andAFG-90 wereall below 50 MPa, with elongation at break less than 5% . Their glass transition temperatures were 189 °C ,253 °C ,and 205 °C ,respectively,while their thermal decomposition temperatures were 283℃, 332°C ,and 311℃,in the sameorder.
