Abstract:As the direct implementers of physical education and health courses, physical education teachers are not only responsible for teaching physical education courses but also for health education.In the era of competency-oriented curriculum reform, they are required to possess not only core competencies of physical education but also core competencies of health education. Currently, physical education teachers in China face several challenges,including an overall low level of personal health literacy, the need to improve health emergency response literacy, the ned to enhance health communication literacy, and the need to strengthen health education teaching literacy. In the new era, it is imperative for physical education teachers to significantly improve their personal health literacy, enhance their health emergency response literacy, expand their influence in health communication, and elevate their health education teaching literacy. In light of these requirements, the future direction should involve integrating the “shared health governance” philosophy throughout the entire process of physical education teacher team building,constructing a health-oriented pre-service physical education teacher training model, systematically conducting health education thematic training for physical education teachers, and encouraging physical education teachers to activelyparticipate inhealth education practice.
