[ABSTRACT]Inorderto further understtheefect paraffin wax(PW)on the thermal decomposition octogen (HMX),thethermal decomposition processs themixturesPW HMX with diferent particle sizes24,75,103 (2 μm 250μm (mass ratio 1:1 )were investigated by a C8O microcalorimeter. The reaction model PW/HMX mixture wasobtainedbykineticmodelfting method,theeffects theparticlesizeHMXthecontentPWonthethermal decomposition PW/HMX mixtures were analyzed.Theresults show thatPW mainlyaffects the initial decomposition stage HMX.The decrease particlesizes HMX isbeneficial tothe interactionbetweenPW HMX surface,reduces the initialdecompositionreactiontemperature,leading toanearlier exothermic peak temperature.Modulatedsamples containing HMX with a particle size 24μm PW with different mass fractions 5% , 10% , 30% , 50% were designed,theadiabatic acceleration calorimetryexperiments were conducted.Underadiabaticconditions,thedecomposition PW/HMX mixture exhibits aone-stepdecompositionreaction.With thedecrease thecontentPW,the dominant role n -order reactions in adiabatic decomposition decreases the self-catalytic increases. Furthermore,the efect PWonthe self-accelerating decomposition temperature HMX was investigatedbased on kinetics.The results indicatethattheintroduction PWleads toa decrease inself-acelerating decomposition temperature,the magnitude the decrease increases with the decrease in the particle size HMX the increase in the content content.
