Observation on the therapeutic effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation combined with mobilizationwith movement in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis

Abstract：ObjectiveTo investigate the efectsof transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation（TENS）combined with mobilizationwith movement（MWM）onclinical eficacy，musculoskeletal ultrasoundfindings andbone metabolismindicators in patientswith knee osteoarthritis （KOA）.MethodsNinetyKOA patients werecolectedandrandomlydivided into the control group （conventional rehabilitation + TENS， n=45 ）and the observation group （conventional rehabilitation +TENS+ MWM， n=45 ）using a random number table. Clinical efficacy，knee joint function， musculoskeletal ultrasound indices and bone metabolismindices werecompared betweenthe two groups.ResultsThe clinicalefcacyof theobservation group was superior to that of the control group （ P<0.05 ）.At 2and 6 months post-treatment，Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index（WOMAC）were significantlylowerin the observation groupthanthose ofthecontrol group， andLysholm Knee Scoring Scalescores were higher inthe observation group than those of the control group（ P<0.05 ） Additionally，articularcartilage thickness，bone gla protein （BGP）andbone-specificalkaline phosphatase （BALP）were higher intheobservation group than thoseof thecontrol group，andsynovial thickness，suprapatellrefusionandtartrateresistant acid phosphatase 5b（TRACP-5b）were lower in the observation group than those of the control group （ P<0.05 ） ConclusionTENScombined with MWM inthe treatmentof KOA patients cannotonlyimprove knee joint function but also optimize musculoskeletal ultrasound indices and regulate bone metabolism indices.
