Xu Wei （1521–1593）， renowned as a masterpainter of his era， holds a significant position as animportant cultural symbol of Shaoxing， alongsideLu Xun’s Sanwei （Three-flavor） Study， the agedwine at Xianheng Restaurant， and Lanting featuredin Wang Xizhi’s literary work. Xu Wei’s life wascharacterized by tumultuous experiences. Despiteall the drama and difficulties he had to encounter，Xu Wei managed to develop an innovativeapproach to painting， which ushered in a newartistic style.
