Effects of Different Additives on the Maturity Process and the Emissions of Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide during Sheep Manure Composting

Abstract:Toaddressthe issueof tailing wasteaccumulation frommaterials such assuperphosphateandmagnesiumsulfate, reasonablyenhancethecarbosequestrationandemisionreductionpotentialaswellastequalityoforganicfertilizerinlivestock andpoultrymanurecompostingandtoreducethecostofcompostaditives,thisstudyaimedtoprovideboththeoreticalbasisand practicalreferencefortheresourceutlizationoflivestockandpoultrymanureandthesustainabledevelopmentofagriculture.Using sheep manureandwheatstrawasthemainrawmaterials,a5O-daycompostingexperimentwasconductedtoinvestigatetheefectsof superphosphateand magnesiumsulfateonthe maturityprocess of sheepmanurewindrowcompostingandonammonia(NH)and hydrogen sulfide (H I2S )emissions.Key parameters monitored included compost pile temperature,pH,moisture content,seed germination index (GI),and carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C/N),as well as the emission rates of NH3 and H2S .Results showed that adding (204号 1%(w/w) superphosphate accelerated the heating rate of the compost pile,prolonged the high temperature duration,reduced pH, moisturecontent,andC/Natioandimproedthesedgeminationindex,significantlyhancingcompostmaturityFurtheth addition of 1% superphosphate effectively reduced the emissions of NH3 and H2S ,with the average emission rates decreasing by 20.84% and 18.24% ,respectively,thereby markedly improving nitrogen retention and gaseous polltion control.In conclusion,during sheep manure composting,adding 1% superphosphate can promote the decomposition and transformation of compost materials, accelerate maturity,and reduce the emissons of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide.
