Correlation between positive degree and psychological distress of elderly chronic disease patients in communities

Abstract  Objective：To explore the influence and threshold effect of positive degree on psychological distress of elderly chronic disease patients in communities，and to provide theoretical basis for further improving the psychological distress of elderly chronic disease patients.Methods：A total of 420 elderly chronic disease patients from 3 communities health service centers in Hefei city from August to November 2023 were selected as the research objects.A study was conducted by using the general data questionnaire，the 10⁃item Kessler Psychological Distress Scale and Consumer Health Activation Index（CHAI）.Results：The score of psychological distress and the score of CHAI of elderly chronic disease patients in communities were 17.74±6.41 and 65.58±19.48，respectively.There was negative correlation between the score of CHAI and the total score of psychological distress in the elderly patients with chronic disease（P<0.05）.The results of multiple linear regression showed that gender，education level，type of medication，self⁃rated health and the score of CHAI were the main influencing factors of psychological distress in the elderly patients with chronic disease（P<0.001）.Curve fitting and threshold effect analysis showed that when the score of CHAI of elderly chronic disease patients was >42，the degree of psychological distress decreased with the increase of the score of CHAI（P<0.001）.Conclusions：The positive degree of elderly chronic disease patients in communities is negatively correlated with psychological distress.Community medical workers can improve their psychological distress by promoting the positive degree of elderly chronic disease patients.
