Numerical biomechanical analysis of pelvic prostheses in treatment of bone metastases

Abstract:To ensure the strength and stability of pelvic prosthesis,a finite element model of the pelvic prosthesis structure system for specific cases is built,and its static and dynamic issues are calculated separately. The static working condition is a standing postures with two legs and one leg,and the dynamic working condition is a pelvis falling processin different directions and heights,as wellas the same falling posture but different fixing methods. The numerical models analyze the stress and deformation of the pelvic-prosthesis structure system under diferent working conditions. The computing results show that the maximum stress of the structure is less than the strength limit of the bone prosthesis material in allthree standing postures,and the stress on the affected side is greater;the maximum stress caused by the falling of pelvis from 5m height may exceed the yield strength of the bone and prosthesis materials; the screw fixation method also has a significant impact on stress distribution.
