Abstract:Ulcerative colitis (UC)is a chronic, nonspecific inflammatorydisease limited to thecolorectal mucosa and submucosa, which recurs repeatedlyand is diffcult to cure.In recent years,an increasing numberof studies have shown that Chinese herbal monomers and compound recipes arecapable of regulating Tol-like receptor 4/nuclear transcription factor -κB (TLR4/NF- κ B),nucleotide-binding oligomerisation structural domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3),Janus kinase/transcription activating factor 3(JAK/STAT3),phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K/ Akt),neurogenic site gap homologue(Notch),adenylate-activated protein kinase/mammalian target of rapamycin (AMPK/m-TOR),signaling pathways to inhibit inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, as well as repairing intestinal barrier to reduce UC symptoms and improve intestinal function. The paper systematically summarizedthe contentof the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in the treatment of UC basedon the signaling pathway, with a view to providing a new theoretical basis for the treatment of UC with TCM.
