Mechanical performance of laminated bamboo lumber - bamboo plywood nailed connections loaded monotonically

Abstract:【Objective】Inviewofthedeficienciesoftraditional woodtrusses interms ofbearingcapacityand theirpropensity to collapseetirelyhendamaged,anewtypeoflaminatedbamboolumber (LBL)trussisproposed.TheLBLtrussusesBLforboththe chordsandwebmembers,withachmemberconnectedbynailedbambooplywood(BP)Thejoint,asthecriticalpartbetweearious members,playadirectoleintestabilitydoad-beagcapacityofteru.I-deptheseachintothmechanicalproperofBBPnail joints under monotonic loading isofpositivesignfcance forthepromotionandaplicationofLBLtrusses.【Method】Taking the angle θ betweentheloadand the principalaxisoftheBPasaparameter,destructivetests wereconductedon6pureshear,2 sheartension,and12shear-compresionspecimens toexploretheirfailuremechanismsandmechanicalbehaviors.【Result】Theresults indicatedthat tefluremodesoftespecimensicudedBPplatefracturs,nailpeetrationthroughtheBPplate,localio failureof theBPplateunderthenailad,and“double-hinge”failureofthenails.Tefilureofpureshearandshear-tensionjoints primarilymanifestedasBPplatefracturesand“double-hinge”failureofthenails,whiletheshear-compresionspecimensmainly exhibited“double-inge”failureoftenailsInsomespecimens,theailheadswereembeddedintorpenetratedthroughteBPplate. Theultimatebearingcapacityofthepureshearspecimensisidepedentofteangle.Teultimateloadsofthshear-tensiopemens at the same angle were allhigher than those of the shear-compression specimens.For a difference of 90∘ in angle θ ,the bearing capacity ofthespecimensisessentiallthsame.Theload-displacementcurvesdonotshowaclearyieldpoint.Theyieldloadestimatedbythe 5% naildiameteroetmetodisoeinineithtectaliaiondteHassaemoelanettefcteoad-dsplacent constitutiverelationshipofthejointsatvariousstagesofoading.【Conclusion】Thefailure mechanismofthenailedonectionshas benrevealeddrincityutilitydsenesigeddspactsiioe proposed.These findings provide design basis and reference for the application of bamboo trusses.
