Preparation andPerformance of Doped Ge-As-Ga-Se Chalcogenide Glass and Optical Fiber

Abstract: A 0 . 2 % (mass fraction) high concentration ion doped chalcogenide glass was prepared for gain fibers used in 4 μm wavelength fiber lasers,and a single-mode double cladding gain fiber was fabricatedusing rod-in-tube technology.Theoptical propertiesof theglassand fiberpreparedunderdiferent processes werecomparedandanalyzed byusing X-ray diffraction,diffrential scanningcalorimetry,electron probe element analysis,ellpsometer,infraredthrmalimager,infraredmicroscopy,nfraredFouriertranformspectrometerflu rescence spectrometer,and other methods.The substrate lossof the final preparedoptical fiber is about2.65 dB / m , and strong fluorescence emission at 3.8-4.8 μ m was successfully detected.This chalcogenide glass fiber has relatively high solubility,good thermal stability and emission property,which has the potential to serve asa gain medium for4 μmband fiber lasers.
