AbstractAntimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a class of polypeptides with antimicrobial activity. Compared with traditional antibiotics,AMPs have broad-spectrumantibacterialactivityand can overcome the drug resistance of pathogenic microorganisms,so they have become the hotspot of “antibiotic alternatives”research. Although antimicrobial peptidesare promising inthefelds of medicine,lifescience,and feed industry,many problems stil remain,suchas high acquisitioncost,short half-life,andthegapin minimum inhibitoryconcentrations compared to antibiotics,etc.,which limittheir furtherdevelopment andapplication.Therefore,the studyontheoptimizationof the AMPs acquisition method and the improvement of biological activities is necessry. In this review,the structure types and biologicalactivitiesof the AMPs were briefly introduced,the activity optimization and heterologous expression of antimicrobial peptides were extensivelysummarized,and the future of their industrialization was also prospected in order to provide references for the development and application of antimicrobial peptides.
