Mediating effect of emotion regulation strategies on fear of disease progression and suicidal ideation in patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer

Abstract Objective：To explore the mediating effect of emotion regulation strategies on fear of disease progression and suicidal ideation in patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer.Methods：A total of 216 patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer admitted to Southeast Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen University were selected by convenience sampling.The patients were surveyed using a general questionnaire，the Fear of Progression Questionnaire （FoP-Q），the Self-rating Idea of Suicide Scale （SIOSS），the Emotion Regulation Strategies Scale （ERSS），and a structural equation model was constructed.Results：The score of patients with cervical cancer undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy on FoP-Q was （28.26±5.41） points，ERSS was （39.47±10.45） points，the score of the Expression Suppression Strategy ［（4.57±1.42） points］ was higher than that of the Cognitive Reappraisal Strategy ［（3.53±1.17） points］，and SIOSS was （13.78±3.25） points.The score of FoP-Q was positively correlated with the score of SIOSS and ERSS，and negatively correlated with the score of Cognitive Reappraisal Strategy;the score of Expression Suppression Strategy was positively correlated with the SIOSS score，and negatively correlated with the score of Cognitive Reappraisal Strategy;the SIOSS score was negatively correlated with the score of Cognitive Reappraisal Strategy.Expression suppression strategy and cognitive reappraisal strategy played a certain mediating effect between fear of disease progression and suicidal ideation，with effect values of 0.164 and 0.072，accounting for 29.39% and 12.90%，respectively;the total mediating effect was 0.236，accounting for 43.29% of the total effect.Conclusions：The suicidal ideation scores of patients with cervical cancer receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy are high，and emotion regulation strategies play a mediating role between fear of disease progression and suicidal ideation.
