Abstract: From a healthy combustion perspective, time-of-flight mass spectrometry was employed to characterize volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emissions from corn straw, bituminous coal, and coal-biomass briquettes, and to assess their associated health risks. First, the influence of different combustion phases on total volatile organic compound (TVOC) emissions from various fuels was analyzed based on combustion efficiency. Second, the U.S. environmental protection agency health risk model was used to calculate real-time health risks during the combustion of different fuels. Finally,an oxidation flow reactor was applied to simulate ultraviolet irradiation of combustion flue gas,and the effect of photochemical aging on VOC emission characteristics was evaluated. The results show that the TVOC mass concentration emitted from corn straw combustion was the highest, followed by bituminous coal, with coal-based biomass briquettes being the lowest. A negative correlation was observed between modified combustion eficiency and VOC generation, and incomplete combustion significantly increased pollutant emisson intensity. Health risk assessment indicated that the hazard index for all three fuels exceeded 3O,and the cumulative carcinogenic risk exceeded 1×10-4 ,surpassing safety thresholds and indicating high noncarcinogenic and carcinogenic risks. Photoaging reduced carcinogenic risk by 70% ,but had a limited mitigating effect on non-carcinogenic risk. The findings provide a scientific basis for the formulation of public health protection policies and clean energy utilization strategies.
