Research on grounding performance and loss-reduction measures of 50O kV AC submarine cables considering anchoring devices

Abstract :To investigate the grounding performance issues caused by the anchoring devices in the landing section of AC submarine cable systems,the impedance and admitance parameters of the cable were derived based on the multi-conductor cell analysis. A nodal admitance matrix was constructed using the Laurent series expansion,and a cascading algorithm was developed. The Zhoushan 500kV Luoyuan 5498 submarine cable section is taken as a case study to analyze its grounding performance and loss reduction measures.Results indicate that under various operating conditions,the core and armor currents vary smoothly,while the sheath current exhibits a decrease-increase-decrease trend,peaking near the Zhenhai
terminal,with all induced voltages remaining below 42V . The sheath current at the Zhenhai terminal is significantly higher than that at the Dapeng Island terminal,with the algorithm’s maximum error under 4.00% compared to measurements. Increased contact resistance at the Zhenhai anchoring point redistributes current, raising sheath current by 466% and reducing armor current by 35.70% . Inserting (204号 1.25Ω resistors or reactors into the sheath loop reduces losses by 4,18% and 4,43% ,respectively. Further optimization(1.5 Ω , 55∘ phase angle)achieves a 5.92% reduction,with sheath-induced voltages remaining within limits. The study provides a new calculation method and engineering reference for the grounding performance analysis and loss reduction measures of submarine cable systems considering anchoring devices.
