Abstract:Inorganic phosphors are widely usedin important fields such as solid-state lighting and displays,making thema keyfocus in the researchon luminescent materials.Typicaly,thedesign of inorganic phosphors relies on the“crystalographicsiteengineering”,where activator ionspartiallysubstitutesuitablemetal cations in hosts to formluminescence centers.This strategy requires the inorganic host to provide standard crystalographic sites foractivatorions occupancy;otherwise,itisdificulttorealizeefectivedopingandsubsequentlyeficientluminescence.In recentyears,ithas been discoveredthat even insome hosts lacking standard substitution sites,eficient luminescencecan beachieved whenactivatorions enterinterstitialcrystalographicsites,leading tothedevelopmentof interstitialluminescentmaterials.Thisreviewsystematicallysummarizes theconstructionandcharacterizationof interstitialluminescencecenters,ndthesynthesisandapplicationofinterstitialphosphors,whilealsodiscusingtheoppor tunitiesand chalenges in futureresearch.Theconstructionof interstitial luminescence centers notonly providesa newperspective for developing inorganic phosphors but also holds significant importance for exploring andunderstanding novel luminescence properties in existing phosphors.
