Clinical Management of Sjogren's Syndrome and Its Complications Based on the Theory of Assisting the Spleen in Dispersing Essence

Abstract：Sjogren’ssyndrome is acommon chronic progressve autoimmune disease characterized by a protracted and relapsing course，often accompanied by multi-system damages involving the nervous，musculoskeletal， pulmonary，and hematological systems，which significantly impair patients’quality oflife.Based on thetheory of spleen qi incharge of dispersing essence，this article posits thatthe onset，progression，andtreatmentof Sjogren's syndrome are closelyrelated to spleen dysfunction，and the core pathogenesis of Sjogren’ssyndrome is due to he failure of spleen in transportation，which results into the failure in dispersing essence.Following the overarching therapeutic principle of assisting the spleen in dispersing essence，the specific treatment strategies were proposed， i.e.，activating spleen to resolve dampness and regulating qi movement，reinforcing earth（spleen）to generate metal （lung） and promoting diffusion to relieve stagnation， fortifying spleen and boosting qi to transform qi and generate fluids，and activating blood to remove stasis and unblocking the spleen collaterals.These approaches aim to alleviate symptoms of Sjogren’s syndrome，prevent and manage its complications，and promote its recovery. The treatment of Sjogren’s syndrome and its complications based on the theory of asisting the spleen in dispersing essence expands the clinical therapeutic method of traditional Chinese medicine for this condition.
