Chinese version of Educational Climate Inventory and its reliability and validity test

Abstract  Objective:To translate the Educational Climate Inventory(ECI) into Chinese, and to test its reliability and validity.Methods:The scale was translated according to the Brislin translation model,and the Chinese version of ECI was formed after cultural adaptation through expert consultation.A total of 732 nursing students from 5 undergraduate universities in Hubei province were investigated to test the reliability and validity of the scale.Results:The Chinese version of ECI included 3 dimensions and 18 items.The item⁃level content validity index(I⁃CVI) of the Chinese version of ECI ranged from 0.89 to 1.00,and the average scale⁃content validity index(S⁃CVI/Ave) was 0.99.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 3 common factors,and the cumulative contribution rate of variance was 58.00%.The results of confirmatory factor analysis show that the three⁃factor model was well⁃fitted.The Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.88.The split⁃half reliability coefficient of the scale was 0.84.Conclusions:The Chinese version of ECI had good reliability and validity,which could be used to evaluate the perceptions of the educational climate of undergraduate nursing students.
