Incidence and influencing factors of accidents among the elderly in Henan province

Abstract  Objective：To investigate the incidence and influencing factors of accidents among the elderly in Henan province.Methods：6 054 elderly people aged ≥60 years in Henan province were selected by stratified multi⁃stage cluster random sampling，the incidence of accidents in the past one month were investigated and the influencing factors of accidents in the elderly were analyzed.Results：A total of 5 570 elderly people were investigated，861 of them had accidents in the past one month，and the incidence of accidents was 15.46%.The main accidents were falling（496，8.90%），missing（104，1.87%）， choking（194，3.48%） and suicide（67，1.20%）.Logistic regression analysis showed that gender，education level，chronic disease，hearing，vision，ability of daily living and cognitive function were the influencing factors of accidents in the past month among the elderly in Henan province（P<0.05）.Conclusion：The risk of accidents in the elderly in Henan province was at a medium level.Comprehensive intervention measures should be formulated for the elderly with chronic diseases，cognitive dysfunction，hearing and vision loss.
