Zhao Shiqing, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress, Learning About Foreign Affairs Work
On March 11, Zhao Shiqing, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress and Chairman of Chongqing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, visited Chongqing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and heard the work report. Zhao Shiqing was accompanied by officials, such as Jian Zexi, Chairman of the Ethnic, Religious, Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress. Leaders of Chongqing FAO, as well as directors of relevant divisions and public institutions directly under Chongqing FAO’s administration, were present.
Throughout the investigation, Zhao Shiqing visited places, such as the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Service Hall and Chongqing Translation & Interpretation Center. He had a detailed understanding of the APEC Business Travel Card, the development of the translator and interpreter team, and the design and selection of foreign affairs gifts.
The head of the Chongqing FAO reported the work on Chongqing’s foreign affairs for 2023 and its plan for 2024. Besides, the Ethnic, Religious, Overseas Chinese, and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress briefed the important foreign affairs-related work of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress for 2024. Zhao Shiqing highly appreciated the endeavors of Chongqing FAO, underlining the remarkable achievements made in 2023. Looking forward to the year 2024, he emphasized that every detail matters when dealing with foreign affairs. Chongqing FAO should take a clear political stance and uphold the centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee over foreign affairs. Moreover, the Office should be a strong advocate of the establishment of both Comrade Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, firmly upholding his core position and the Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership. Endeavors should be made to enhance political judgment, understanding, and implementation. Zhao Shiqing also suggested Chongqing FAO take an active part in serving China’s diplomacy and Chongqing’s central tasks, so as to accelerate the building of the Center for International Exchanges in Central and Western China and transform international resources, such as the links with sister cities, into growth impetus. Therefore, endeavors put into foreign affairs will boost the opening-up and development of Chongqing, and vice versa. In addition, efforts should be redoubled to create an array of signature achievements in foreign affairs. The Chongqing FAO should engage in more frequent exchanges and collaboration with the Ethnic, Religious, Overseas Chinese, and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress. By sharing resources and platforms, they can build consensus to usher in a new chapter for Chongqing in foreign affairs.
