Force Simulation and Performance Comparison of Soluble Fracturing Balls

Abstract:Soluble fracturing balls with two diffrent structures currently used in oilfields were studied. Acomputational static structural mechanics method was employed to simulate the force distribution on these two types of soluble fracturing bals.The force difference of the fracturing balls was studied when the cone angle of the ball seat was 20∘~60∘ ,and the force of the fracturing balls was 1O\~8O MPa. Finite element analysis (FEA) software and standard contact models were adopted to establish numerical simulation models and analyze the force distribution patterns of the two types of soluble fracturing balls under different operating conditions.According to the stress and strain distribution,the causes of the static pressure distribution were explored.The external characteristic curve of the fracturing ballswas drawn,including the relationship among stress, strain, cone angle of ball seat,and pressure. It was found that the operating conditions at which the characteristics of the fracturing balls changed corresponded to the results of stress simulation analysis.Based on the force simulation results,the applicable operating conditions for the two types of fracturing balls were analyzed.The results indicate that under the same fracturing conditions,the performance of the soluble information fracturing balls is comparable to that of the traditional fracturing bals.However,due to the internal circuitry in the soluble information fracturing bals,their external dimensionsare limited,whereas traditional fracturing balls offer a wider range of size options.For data acquisition requirements during the downhole fracturing stage,the soluble information fracturing ball has a significant advantage.
