Research Progress on Osteogenic Pathways Associated with Ankylosing Spondylitis and Traditional Chinese Medicine Interventions

Abstract：Ankylosing spondylitis（AS）is a chronic inflammatory disease primarilyafecting theaxial joints，with severe cases leading to spinal deformities and jointankylosis，resulting indisability.Pathological new bone formation is thepathological basis for jointankylosisand spinal deformities inAS patients.Osteogenic pathwaysare closely associated with pathological newboneformation in AS.Traditional Chinese medicine（TCM）exhibits multi-component， multi-target，andmulti-pathwaytherapeuticcharacteristics，demonstrating clinicallyvalidated efcacy inAS treatment. This review analyzes and summarizes the osteogenic pathways （Wnt/ β -catenin and BMP/Smad signaling pathways）involved in pathological new bone formation inAS，as well as theresearch progress on TCM interventions targetingthesepathways to inhibit pathologicalnewbone formation.The aim is to provide scientificevidence for TCMbased treatment of AS.
