Toxicity Dynamics and Site - Specific Effects of Two Herbicides on Growth of Pontederia crassipes

Abstract:Toevaluateeficacyofmultiple herbicidesagainstPontederiacrasipesandtoanalyzetheirsite-specificeffects anddynamic toxicitypatterns,eleven herbicides were initiallyscreened in2O24.The preliminaryresultsshowed that glufosinate-ammonium,bentazone,and flufenpyr-ethyl exhibited good bioactivity against P . crassipes ,causing moderate to severedamage.Basedonthese findings,bentazoneandflufenpyr-ethyl were selectedforfurther toxicityassessment. Leaf inhibitionrate,petioleinhibitionrate,newrotinhibitionrate,andfresh weightinhibitionratewere detemined to construct toxicity regression equation and to assess both site-specific effects and dynamic toxicity paterns.Flufenpyrethyl showed extremely high bioactivity.At7,14,and 28 days after application,the fresh weight GR 50 values were 0.017, 0.013,and O.011 mg/L for flufenpyr-ethyl,and 271.273,71.333,and 59.813mg/L for bentazone,respectively. Flufenpyr-ethyl caused uniform inhibition across all plant parts of P crassipes,with GR values below 0.019 mg/L for -50each part. Bentazone was most effective against the new root system of P .crassipes,with a GR value of 64.875 mg/L at 5028 days after application. In conclusion,both herbicides significantly inhibited growth of P . crassipes. Flufenpyr-ethyl demonstratedrapidandsystemicactivityatverylowconcentrations,indicating strong potential foreficient control.
