Research Progress on Occurrence Regularity and Chemical Control Technology of Solanum nigrum L. in Cotton Fields of Xinjiang

Abstract:The unique climate andcultivation practices in Xinjiang,China’sprimary coton- producing region,have resulted in severe weed problems in coton fields.Solanum nigrum has becomea dominant and pernicious weed, severelyafectingcottonyield,quality,andmechanical harvesting.Thispaperdescribedthemorphological,growth,and reproductive characteristicsof S . nigrum and analyzes its occurrence patterns and damage features in Xinjiang's cotton fields.Chemical control remains the primary method for managing S.nigrum,primarily involving pre-emergence and post-emergence treatments.The mechanisms of action of various pre-and post -emergent herbicides,as wellas ficacyof herbicides mixtures,were discussed indetail.Aditionaly,applicationof synergistsandreportedcompounds andtheirderivativesusedforS.nigrumcontrol,bothdomesticallyand internationally,werereviewed.Currntly,S. nigrumcontrolfaced chalengessuch asincreasing herbicidesresistanceand environmental polution.Collborative efortsamong pesticideR&D institutions,technologyextension departments,and manufacturing enterprises were required. Sustainable management of S :nigrum in cotton fields could be achieved by increasing investment in novel compounddevelopment,strengtheningaplicationmanagement,and innovating formulation technologies,therebymeeting the needs of sustainable agricultural development.
