Experimental Study on Vibration and Noise of the NW Planetary Gearbox

Abstract :This study investigates the underlying causes of noise generation in the NW planetary gear reducer by analyzing its vibration-acoustic signals and validating results through Romax software simulation based on the structural characteristics of the product.By examining vibration and acoustic monitoring test results under diferent transmission error conditions and operating scenarios,the primary factors contributing to excessive vibration and noise of the product are identified.The validityof the signalanalysis is further confirmed through simulation software verification. During the experiments,acceleration sensors and acoustic sensors are used to simultaneously collct vibration signals from the reducer's surface and acoustic signals from its vicinity,and the statistical analysis ofthe test signals reveals the significant impactof transmisson errors on vibrationand noise levels.Furthermore,the time-frequency domain analysis indicates that the sun gear-large planet gear meshing pair is the main source of vibration and noise excitation. Based on these findings,a tooth profile modification is applied to the sun gearto achieve vibration reduction and noise attnuation. Comparative studies on transmission error,load distribution,and noise intensity before and after the modification demonstrates that the proposed profilemodification scheme,derived from vibration-acoustic signal analysis,effectively reduces the noise level. These results provide theoretical guidance for vibration and noise reduction ofNW planetary reducers.
