Abstract: In recent years, polyurea-coated reinforced concrete (RC)slabs have been extensively studied both experimentally andnumericallforstructural strengtheningagainstcontactexplosions.However,theoretical investigationsremainlimited, particularlyconcerming the impactof polyurea onthe local damages of theRCsubstrates.Inthis paper,ananalytical model based onstress wave propagationtheory was proposed to investigate thereflectionofcompression waves atthe backsideof the RCsubstrateslabandpredictthespalingdepth.Utilizingthisanalytical model,aquantitativeanddetaileddiscussion was presentedregarding the effectof the polyurea on thecritical spalingand breachoftheRCsubstrate slab.Furthermore,the applicabilityof the empirical breach prediction,originally developed foruncoated RCslabs,wasvalidated through existing experiments to predict thebreach of polyurea-coatedRCsubstrate slabs.Theresults indicate thatpolyurea affects the spalling processof theRCsubstrate slabs.Specifically,te net stress wave adjacent totheconcrete-polyurea interface isacompression wave,whileittransitionstoatensilewaveinthedeeperconcrete.PolyureaprimarilyimpactsthfrstspalloftheRCsubstrate slab;subsequentspalingprocessesafterthfirstspallalignwiththoseobservedinuncoatedRCsabs.Upontheoccurrenceof criticalspalling,polyureaenhances tecritical spallingresistanceofRCslabs,although itsignificantlyincreases thespaing depth. Conversely, whena breach occurs,polyurea reduces the number ofspallsbut minimally afects on the total spaling depth.Basedonthesefindings,the empirical method forpredicting breachesofuncoatedRCslabscaneffectivelybeapplied to predictthe breach of RC substrate slabs coated with polyurea.The test results from more than twenty contact explosion experiments areconsistent with thepredictedoutcomes,therebyvalidating theefectiveness of theanalytical model and providing a method for estimating the breach of polyurea-coated RC substrate slabs.
