Abstract:Twokindsofstructural projectiles madeof twodiferent materials weredesigned inthis paper.Anexperimental study of 11kg projectiles penetrating the reinforced concrete target at 1400m/s was carried out using a 203mm Davis gun. Basedontheexperimentalresults,thestructuralresponse,penetrationcapabilityandrelatedengineering isuesof teprojectile are discussed. The results show that when the reinforced concrete target is penetrated at a velocity of 1400m/s ,the heads of projectiles madeof two diferent materials experienced erosionand were mushroomed.This was caused by high temperatures resultingfrom friction between the projectileandthe concrete during penetration,which significantlysoftened the surfaceof the projectile.Furthermore,thecontact pressure betweenthe projectileand the target exceededthe yieldstrengthof the projectilematerialnearthesurface,causing thematerialtoenterastateofplasticflowandultimatelyleadingtotheerosionand mushrooming ofthe projectileead.Additionallythesurface materialoftheprojectile wasstrippedduetothecutingactionof thehardaggegatesin theconcrete,resulting in severeabrasionof the projectilebody.Whencomparingthe structural responses ofprojectiles madeofdiferent materials,it was evidentthat material properties influenced theirbehavior.Compared to 30CrMnVE,9oo,onforitsheregthrdsdeterstaetiactpessooed lesserosionathe projectilehead.However,the inferiorshearresistanceand wear resistanceofDT190ledtosevere abrasion ontheprojectilebody.Themasslosspattmofaconical projectileisdiferent fromthatofasolidlong-rodprojectile,withthe laterconcentratedmainlyinteprojectileody.Teconicalfaredtaildesign,ilesppressingballsticdeflection,ied thecontactareabetwee theprojectile bodyandthetarget,enhancingtheabrasive and cutingactionsofaggregates and steel. Moreover,under high-speed penetration conditions,the erosionand mushrooming of the projectile head could reduce the penetrationdepth;thelesserosionatthehead,thegreaterthepenetrationdepth.Inexperiments,themaximumpenetration depth ofDT19o0 projectiles could reach up to nine times the length of the projectile.
