The beauty of blue clamp-dyeing （Lanjiaxie） lies primarily in its woodblocks. Without the skilled woodblock artisans meticulously carving beautiful patterns and designs onto the wooden boards， even the most talented dyers would be unable to produce the graceful blue clamp-dyeing. The patterned woodblocks used by hundreds of blue clamp-dyeing workshops once scattered throughout southern Zhejiang were all supplied by two major families： the Shi and Su families from Gaolou in Rui’an， Wenzhou.
