The Qingming Festival, or Tomb-sweeping Day, is a traditional festival in Chinese culture. It usually falls on April 4th to 6th each year.

The Qingming Festival is an important festival for Chinese families to sweep tombs(扫墓). It is an activity for paying respect(表达敬意) for the dead(已故之人). People would clear away weeds and build up the tombs with fresh soil. They would take things like food, fruit, wine and spirit money(纸钱) to the tomb. They place the food, fruit and wine before the tomb, and burn the spirit money.

Qingming is also one of the Chinese 24 solar terms(节气). After the festival, the temperature will rise and rainfall increases. The working people in the old days used it to guide their farm work. It’s the important time for farmers to plow and sow.
