Analysis and improvement on acoustic performance of automotive tailpipe

Abstract:To explore the sound-absorbing ability of the automotive tailpipe and further improve the noise reduction performance of the automotive exhaust noise suppresson system, a perforated tailpipe is designed.Based on finite element simulation,the energy transfer losss of ordinary and perforated tailpipe are obtained.By parameterization analysisthe law of acoustic performance changes of perforated tailpipe is obtained. The results show that the sound reduction frequency band and sound reduction ability of the perforated tailpipe can be changed by changing the perforation rate and perforation tube diameter; perforated tailpipe has good acoustic performance in specific frequency bands and can serve asan important supplement to exhaust noise suppression systems. The analysis results can provide ideas for the design of noise suppression tailpipes.
