Research Progresson the Clinical Application and Pharmacological Mechanism of External Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis

Abstract：Knee osteoarthritis（KOA）isa chronic degenerative joint disease that significantly impacts patients’ qualityof life.In recent years，traditional Chinese medicine（TCM）external therapies，such as fumigation，hot compress，and topical application，have shown promising eficacy in treating KOA of diferent TCM syndrome types. These therapies can alleviate joint stiffness，pain，and sweling，promote joint function recovery，and demonstrate highsafety.Pharmacological studies haverevealed that TCM external aplication improves KOAby inhibiting inflammatory responses andchondrocyteapoptosis，promoting chondrocyte proliferation，andregulating the degradation and synthesis of the extracellular matrix.This article systematically summarizes the research progress on the clinicalapplicationand pharmacological mechanisms of externalapplicationof TCMin treating KOA，aiming to provide more references for the prevention and treatment of KOA.
