Abstract:Aimingto investigate theperformancedesign appoachthecarbonfiberreinforced polymer (CFRP)sheet strengthened masonry infilled walls subjected toblast loads,thecommercial finite element program LS-DYNA isfrstlyused to develop thesimplified micro-finite element model masonryinfiled wals the corresponding blast-resistant analysis model the CFRP sheet strengthened wals.By comparing the numerical simulation results with the nine groups field explosion test results the unstrengthening CFRP sheet strengthened masonry infilled wals,,the applicability the present simplified micro-modeling approach,as wellasthe material models parameters masonry CFRPshet nd thecorrespondingcontactalgorithm, isthoroughlyverified.Furthermore,referring tothe CFRPshetseismic strengthenng methods recommended by China stard GB 50608—2020,the dynamic behaviors the prototype masonry infiled walls strengthened with CFRP sheets under blast loads are analyzed compared.It is recommended that the diagonal two-way strengtheningmethodbeadvocated,followedbytheverticaltwo-wayhorizontalful-coverstrengtheningmethods.In contrast,the vertical ful-cover mixed thre-waystrengthening methodsare not recommended. Finally,to simultaeously satisfytheconditions intactCFRP,noscateringdebristhepeakcentraldeflectionthanallthickness tomeettheblastresistantdesigngoaltheangesthescaleddistanceteprototypemasonyinfilledwalswithdiferentarrangementstie bar (non-/cut-f/full-length tie bar) that need to be strengthened under typical sedan ( 227kg equivalent TNT) briefcase bombs ( 23kg equivalent TNT) specified by Federal Emergency Management Agency explode at different scaled distances are determined to be 0.8-2.0m/kg1/3 0.2-1.2mkg1/3 , respectively. The suggestions for the optimal number CFRP sheet layers for effective blast-resistantdesignare further provided.The arrangementthetie barhaslitteeffectontheoptimal number strengthening layers,only affecting the critical scaled distance at which the wallneeds to be strengthened.
