Efficient Multistage Offshore Drill-Cuttings Treatment While Drilling

Abstract:Water-based drilling fluid is commonly used in the Bohai Oilfield,which may result in a large amount ofstructurallycomplex water-based drill-cutings.Ofshore water-based drill-cutings treatment equipment usuallyfaces theissuessuch as large footprintand low efciency.Based onthephysical propertiesof offshore water-based drill-cutings and the characteristics of offshore driling platforms,a process flow was designed,and an efficient three-stage water-based drill-cuttings treatment while drilling(TWD)system was proposed.Through numerical simulation and field tests,this system was determined to be a combination of centrifuge + decanter centrifuge + belt filter press,with a solid removal rate of 55% , 30% and 15% respectively at these stages. After linkage test and structural optimization ofthe system,a multistage reduction equipment with a footprint less than 80m2 (2 was developed.Field application demonstrates that the multistage reduction equipment features a large treatment capacity (up to 28.8m3 )and can realize a continuous operation without the need to install a waste storage tank. The resulting solid phase exhibits asmallwater volume fraction,and the liquid phase is clear and recyclable,indicating an efect of“no drilling waste on ground”and liquid phase recycling.The research provides a reference for further optimization of offshore drilling waste treatment process.
