How to Develop Fluency in English如何流利地使用英语

Learning the basics of a new language is certainly a challenge, but masteringtrue fluency in a new language is even more difficult. It is, however, possible todevelop fluency in a foreign language with the appropriate learning and a lot ofpractice. It needs determination2 and hard work.

Read different types of English writing and expand your vocabulary. If there isan English newspaper available in your area, pick one up every day and read throughit. Also try finding books meant for children or young adults. Read in English andcircle words and sentence structures that you’re unfamiliar3 with, then look them upand write the definition4 in the margins5 of the paper or book. Then try to use a fewof the new words and sentences in English conversation.

Watch different English programs. English news reports are a great way to expose6 yourself to English because reporters usually speak clearly without any significant7 accent8. Watch movies. Movies that are directed towards children or teens may have less difficult vocabulary and sentence structures. Turn on subtitles9for anything you watch if they are available. Watching the words while you hearthem can improve your pronunciation and vocabulary. Repeating what you hearwhile watching is also helpful.

Speak in English. Developing fluency requires practicing. It is best if you canspeak with native English speakers, but if you cannot, speak with whoever isavailable to you. You can even talk to yourself aloud in English. Speak onlyEnglish. Even when you are unsure of exactly what to say all of the time, find away to communicate only in English. Ask those around you to speak to you inEnglish whenever possible.

Find an English learning buddy10. Having a learning buddy will give you boththe opportunity to learn and practice together.
