Pretend to Play the Yu滥竽充数

During the Warring States Period， the king of Qi loved the music of the Yu，a traditional Chinese instrument. He had a band of 300 Yu players. The king often ordered them to play the Yu together for him. And the players were all treated well by the king.

A man called Nan Guo could not play the Yu. But he heard about the king’s hobby. He thought it was a good way to make money. So he introduced himself to the king，“I am good at playing the Yu. No one can hear my music without being moved. Please let me join the band and play for you！"

The king was very happy to hear that. He let Nan Guo join the band.

Every time the band played for the king，Nan Guo would pretend to play the Yu together with others. In this way，Nan Guo got the same money as the other players.

After a few years，the king died. His son became the new king. The new king also loved the music of the Yu.But he loved solos.He asked the players to play one by one.

Hearing that， Nan Guo was afraid and worried. He packed up and ran away that night.
