A long long time ago, in the year 1672, a man from Belgium(比利时) named Ferdinand Verbiest(南怀仁) visited the Chinese Emperor Kangxi(康熙帝). At that time, Kangxi was only 18 years old. Ferdinand later became his science teacher and showed him many cool things.
One day, Ferdinand made a special toy for Kangxi. It was a little car, powered by steam(蒸汽). The toy had wheels and was about 65 centimeters long. No one could sit inside because it was too small, but many people believe that it was the start of amazing things like trains, cars, and steam-powered boats(蒸汽船)!
Then, many years later, in 1885, a man named Karl Benz(卡尔·本茨) invented the first modern car. It was powered by gasoline(汽油). Cars began to change the world.
Before 1956, China had to buy cars from other countries. But in 1956, something exciting happened—China started making its very own cars!
Today, cars are everywhere. Now we have cars that run on electricity(电). These electric cars are better for the environment, and most of them are designed and made in China!
