The impact of drone technology on conflicts in the East African region and its enlightenments

Abstract： The asymmetric security impacts of drone technology in regional conflicts and their enlightenments are examined.At the tactical level，the deployment of drones alters the course of warfare，leading to transformative shifts in batlefield dynamics.Strategically，drone-enabled deterrence empowers one party to coerce adversaries into negotiations.While drones’persistent surveillance and precision strike capabilities exert profound influence on the long-term evolution of conflicts，they remain incapable of resolving regional disputes at their root.By analyzing drones’dual nature as security tools and their collateral risks，the post-Cold War securitization of drone technology，and the interplay between drone proliferation and Africa's unique security context，the drivers behind these asymmetric security effects and the resulting complex consequences are investigated.
