AbstractDesertification isabotleneck restricting the socio-economic development of the Thre-North Regions, threatening national ecological security and the sustainable development of the Chinese nation.The straw checkerboard sand barrier,known as the“Chinese Magic Cube”,is one of the most widelyused measures for preventing soil wind erosion in the wind-sand regions of northwest China.Itcan not only increase surface roughness,block sand particle movement,reduce sand and dust emision,and slow down dune migration,but also has the advantages of simple layout,environmental friendliness,and adaptability to various environments.Through the latest research results of combing straw checkerboard sand barriers,this study assesses the current research status and development directions of soil wind erosion prevention technologies for straw checkerboard sand bariers.Inthe future,it is necessary to strengthen researchonthe sand-fixing mechanismsof checkerboard sand bariersmadeof diferent materials, deeply explain theecological efects of straw checkerboard sand barrers from multiple perspectives,explore comprehensive new sand-fixing technologies using straw checkerboard sand barriers as carriers,and vigorously develop miniaturized and intellgent straw checkerboard laying equipment,so as to provide technical supportfor winning the battle of the Three-North Project.
