Design and Application of the Deformation Monitoring Scheme for an Ultra-Large-Span Underground Cavern

Abstract: [Purposes] To ensure the stability of the underground cavern during construction and operation,the support scheme for the large-span cavern is verified and improved.[Methods] Combining the layout of deformation monitoring projects for underground caverns,this study analyzes measured monitoring data to investigate the deformation patterns of the large span underground cavern over time,with construction progress,and across spatial dimensions.Based on the deformation patterns observed at different monitoring points in various sections,hyperbolic and logarithmic functions are used to establish a time-series-based safety monitoring model, which is applied to evaluate the safety condition of the surrounding rock.[Findings] The results show that: ① the deformation of the cavern surrounding rock is mainly influenced by excavation and rock mass rheology; ② the deformation of the urrounding rock gradually decreases from the surface inward; ③ the maximum depth of deformation caused by constructioniswithin 12m ,with the major deformation occurring within the range of O~8 m.[Conclusions] The research resultscan provide a reference for the design and application of deformation monitoring in large-span underground caverns.
